Triple Win in Round The Island Race
Greig City Academy’s crew on Cote sailed away from Saturday’s iconic Round the Island Race with an amazing three trophies. With a corrected time of 6hr 58 mins, they won the Quarter Tonner class, as well as the B&G Young Sailor Trophy while also coming first in the IRC Sailing School Boats category.
It’s an astonishing result from the only state school that took part. And that wasn’t the school’s only success. Two other crews completed the tough all-day race, aboard the flagship 45ft Scaramouche and the mini-tonner Riot. Scaramouche’s corrected time of 8hr 15 min put her 14th in her class, and Riot’s corrected 7hr 43min put her 38th in hers.
The students made the most of a fantastic day in beautiful racing conditions, among over 1,000 entrants. They showed just how well they compete against the best sailors on the water.
It’s all the result of their incredible performance attitude – making the very best use of every opportunity they have to get afloat and keep improving.
