A massive well done to the ‘Palaver’ crew of Corneille, Felipe, Zhayne, and ex GCA student Jessye. Together the have gone for gold become one of the Etchells class success stories and the pride of Grieg City Academy’s sailing programme. What they share is a passion for sailing. A drive to win. The thrill of speed. A determination to work hard and pull together.
The support that the Etchells class has offered them has been outstanding. The story started in 2017 when then fleet captain, David Franks, sponsored a GCA crew to join the Cowes Etchells Youth Academy. With world-class coaching from David Bedford and later Matt Reid, combined with heavy logistics lifting from Jon Holt to get them to Cowes every weekend in the middle of winter – they would never have made it to being youngest team to have won the entire season.
Over 2 years, these four lads (with an average age of 17) have tightened up their teamwork and pushed as hard as they could for podium finishes at every event. Well done lads!
