Kai has been described by Sir Ben Ainslie as a “standout talent,” and it’s easy to see why. From the moment he stepped onto the water at age 11, his potential has been undeniable. His sailing journey began at Grieg City Academy in 2017, where he quickly made waves.

Just two years later, he became the youngest ever competitor in the legendary Fastnet Race, marking the start of an extraordinary career.

Since then, Kai has sailed over 3,000 miles offshore in RORC races and carved out a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the Laser class. He’s been a regular fixture at the Youth Nationals and has battled it out in every major UK qualifier – standing out as the only BAME competitor in one of the most competitive fleets in the country.

But Kai’s achievements don’t stop there. In 2023, racing an Etchells to come 3rd overall, he was awarded the prestigious Musto Young Skipper Trophy. Competing alongside world champions and Olympians, Kai was the highest-placed Under-25 helm at the regatta – a truly remarkable feat.

Back at Cowes in 2024 he teamed up with fellow Grieg City sailor, Jessye Opoku-Ware, to help him win the Cowes Week Youth Trophy – a fitting tribute to both these bright young sailing stars.

Now, Kai has a unique and prestigious internship with Ben Ainslie’s Emirates GBR and SailGP teams. In 2024, he has travelled around the world with them, learning his trade as a member of the shore team. At the same time, he has been honing his foiling skills in Waszps, in preparation for joining ‘Athena Pathway’ and getting out on the team’s monster foiling yachts.

Looking ahead, Kai is focused on soaring even higher. There’s no doubt that this rising star has the drive and talent to break new ground in the sailing world.
