“I started sailing in Year 8 because I wanted to do a unique sport which offered new experiences.

I used to give up on things so easily before I started sailing. I got into sailing regularly in Year 11.  Sailing means commitment and self-growth, which allows me to push myself. I learned that consistency is the key to getting better and that determination and the drive not to give up is the way to achieve good things in life.

I started getting better grades to keep sailing. I made more friends who sail and my mindset changed about sport. I have a growth mindset now. My parents noticed that I started socialising more and have developed a mind set that is most positive, being more independent and collaborative.”

“My current aim is to do more laser sailing and improve on keel boats. Sailing has influenced my future career direction. I always wanted to work in a hospital, and my plan is to combine studying to be a paramedic with the marine industry. My long-term goal is to become a marine paramedic.”
