“Before I did sailing, I was shy and just a normal student. After I started sailing things have been anything other than ordinary. During my time at Greig City Academy, taking part in the Scaramouche Programme, I developed a range of skills and experiences that gave me the confidence to take on challenges beyond the programme and into the work I do today.
Being part of the sailing team racing Etchells and Dragons, taught me tenacity and not to hesitate when starting something new or out of the ordinary. I had the opportunity to sail across the Atlantic (15 days), which showed me that life is about creating moments and continuously learning.
Throughout the programme, we learned the importance of teamwork, like a cog in a machine everyone played a vital role in reaching a shared goal. Whether operating the boat in competitive races, making tactical decisions, or practising presentations to raise funding, the Scaramouche Sailing Trust helped build characteristics that continue to support my future.”
“Beyond the programme, the qualities that have stayed with me most are networking and team-building. While studying at Bournemouth University (Industrial & Product Design, 2020 – 2024), these skills played a key role in my journey and helped build my confidence, particularly when pitching ideas as a Product Design student. In my current work, running a Media and Marketing agency and collaborating with businesses and leading brands, these same characteristics continue to shape long-term relationships and encourage me to confidently reach out and pursue ideas beyond the ordinary.”
Seun now works as a Product Designer/Videographer and runs his own creative media agency.
