Refined over ten years, Greig City Academy applies these building blocks to run their exemplary school sailing programme and unlock long term outcomes for young people from diverse backgrounds.
Six Principles
GCA offers a variety of pathways to progress. All students are offered entry level ‘give it a go’ sessions on a local reservoir during school hours. They get active and learn the basics.
Those that want to develop and face more personal challenge can join a voyage with a specialist external provider and gain initial seamanship qualifications.
For those with a thirst for more, opportunities include focused race training in dinghies and keelboats – in London, Cowes and around the country. Commitment and performance is expected.
Students can gain qualifications that allow them to coach, skipper and compete at the highest levels, learning navigation and extending their nautical knowledge.
The pace and direction of travel is driven by each individual student. The programme is agile and supports personal growth and aspiration. Distinct opportunities are created for girls.
Connections made within the sailing community inspire students to consider futures in the maritime world. They open up the horizon to different career pathways.

We know sailing is expensive, the logistics are challenging and they work hard to ensure we have everything we need to sail safely and race competitively.
